JAIPUR: The city traffic police and special surveillance teams of Jaipur police commissionerate fined nearly 4500 vehicles for drunken driving and other traffic violations on New Year eve. The most common violation was overspeeding and drunken driving despite repeated warnings issued by the police not to drink and drive.

Many overenthusiastic youths were caught overspeeding on bikes and creating ruckus in public places in an inebriated condition.
Nearly 4447 vehicles were fined during the surveillance. Additional Commissioner Ajay Pal Lamba said that the checkpoints were set up to maintain the law and order in the city. Additional policemen were deployed from police lines.
“Many cases of traffic violations were related to drunken driving. We seized vehicles if the driver was found under the influence of alcohol,” said Lamba.
He added that the police had already issued an advisory to people not to indulge in drunken driving. So strict action was taken against the violators.
