Jaipur: Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) officials slapped fines on 36 people who were found not wearing mask while jogging at Central Park in the city. The JMC teams collected a fine of Rs 200 from each person. The officials said that it is mandatory to wear mask and follow social distancing guidelines at Central Park and all other parks of the city. Wearing masks at public places is one of the guidelines that is mandatory for people to follow across the state to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“It is mandatory for people to follow social distancing guidelines and wear mask at all public places including parks and playgrounds. Though these places have been opened for the public, it doesn’t mean that the people don’t need to follow the rules. We imposed fines on nearly 36 people and collected an amount of Rs 7200 from them on Monday. The drive will continue,” said JMC commissioner Vijay Pal Singh.

Similar legal actions were taken at several other places including Jawahar Circle where four people were penalized for not wearing masks.

The vigilance team of JMC has imposed fines on as many as 638 shopkeepers.

“The shopkeepers need to ensure that the customers are following social distancing guidelines and they are selling products to only those people who are wearing masks. It’s an offense to sell to people who are not wearing masks,” said the officer.

He added that the people will need to pay fines and a legal action may be taken against them under the prevailing laws if they are found violating COVID-19 guidelines.
