3 drowned, 17 rescued as 4 vehicles get swept away in drain in Rajasthan’s Barmer

Jaipur: Heavy rains in Barmer and Jaisalmer districts of western Rajasthan is creating havoc. Nearly 20 people were swept away in a drain overflowing with rain water in Barmer district on Thursday. These people were in four different vehicles. While 17 people were rescued, the remaining three including a woman and an 8-year-old boy were killed. All the victims are said to be relatives.

A search operation was underway throughout the night.

“The victims were in four vehicles. The locals asked them not to cross the drain as it was overflowing with rain water, but the travelers didn’t pay attention. All the four vehicles were swept away in the rain water,” said an officer.

Rescue teams of state disaster relief force (SDRF) and army were roped in to find these people.

The bodies of a woman and an elderly man were recovered in the night, while that of the boy was found nearly 4 km from the spot on Friday morning.

All others were rescued.

They were admitted in hospitals for treatment.
