10 arrested for betting on IPL matches in Jaipur

One of the IPL betting rackets was busted in Ashok Nagar police station area. The police team raided an apartment in Shiv Gyan Apartment building on Parivahan Marg around 9 am on Sunday.

Jaipur: Acting on a tip-off by the Rajasthan ATS, the Jaipur police busted two gangs of criminals alleged involved in betting on IPL matches. The police seized over 100 mobile phones, five laptops, two cars and Rs 87,000 cash from the accused men. Those arrested include kingpin of these rackets, Vikas Khandelwal – a resident of Ajmer.

One of the IPL betting rackets was busted in Ashok Nagar police station area. The police team raided an apartment in Shiv Gyan Apartment building on Parivahan Marg around 9 am on Sunday. The team was led by Ashok Nagar SHO Dharmendra Sharma and ATS inspector Manish Sharma. The teams arrested a known criminal, Vikas Khandelwal and six others.  Vikash is a resident of Ajmer and has a history of arrests in betting related cases.

The police seized Rs 86,000, 22 mobile phones, 3 laptops, two cars and a telephone exchange set for taking betting orders.  Others who were arrested were identified as Rajesh Sisodia, Shailendra Sharma, Chandra Shekhar, Pradeep Singh and Kamal Maheshwari.

When the police interrogated these men, they came to know about another betting racket operating out of Vaishali Nagar.

The Ashok Nagar police immediately informed the Vaishali Nagar police following which three men – Hemant Sharma, Mahendra Saini and Ujjwal Soni were arrested. Hemant Sharma is allegedly the owner of the Parivahan Marg-situated flat where the first racket was busted. In the Vaishali Nagar, the police seized 25 mobile phones, two laptops and other equipment.

It has come up during investigation that Vikas was involved in spot betting for IPL matches.
