1 child killed, 23 others injured as school bus overturned

Their teacher decided to drive the bus when the regular driver didn’t turn up

Jaipur: A 9-year-old boy, identified as Amit, was kille while 23 other children were injured when the school bus they were travelling in overturned in Bharatpur’s Ramsinghpur Palki village on Thursday.

The driver of the bus had not turned up, so a teacher decided that he would the drive the vehicle. He was fumbling with some wires while driving the bus. As he took his eyes off the road, it lost balance and overturned. The teacher is on the run after the mishap. He had jumped off the bus to save himself.

There were 50 school children in the bus which could accommodate a maximum of 24 children.

The bus belonged to Sri Shyam Vidha Mandir Senior Secondary School.

The bus transported children from several nearby villages to the school daily.

On Wednesday, the callousness on part of the teacher, identified as Kesar Singh Yadav, caused the tragedy.

School children couldn’t come out of the bus after the mishap and were stuck. Policemen and local residents broke open the windows to pull them out.

All the injured children are aged between 6 years and 14 years.

The police have registered a case against the accused teacher and launched a search for him.
