Jaipur: Amid uproar over the Hyderabad rape and murder case\nin the country, President Ram Nath Kovind said in Jaipur on Friday that the people\nfound guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act\nshould not be given the right to file a mercy petition. He expressed concerns\nover the rising cases of rapes and assault against women. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kovind was speaking at a national conclave over women empowerment\nat Brahma Kumaris situated in Abu Road. He said that the Indian women are\nproving their metal across the globe, but they are also increasing falling\nvictim to violence and rape incidents. He said that for the society\u2019s\ndevelopment, the women empowerment is necessary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA lot has been done towards women safety, but a lot is yet\nto be done. The women empowerment should begin at home. The parents can play an\nimportant role in this. They should respect our daughters and encourage them to\npursue their ambitions,\u201d Kovind said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the criminals found guilty under POSCO Act\nshould not have the right to file mercy petition. The Parliament should think\nabout it, he said adding that this right should repelled.
