The people, tourism department and many organizations celebrated its\nbirthday by organizing many events across the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) organized a classical-dance program at Govind Devi Ji temple on Monday. The civic body also organized a puja of Ganesh idol at Gangapole. Jaipur mayor Vishnu Lata offered prayers. Similarly, a cake cutting ceremony was organized by Jaipur Marathon at Albert Hall in Jaipur. Earlier Amer was the capital of the then princely state. As the\npopulation increased, Maharaja Jai Singh thought of establishing a new city for\nthe residents. The city was built over a period of eight years. The population\nof the city at the time of its foundation was 38,000. The Walled City was spread\nover 9 square miles. The population of the Walled City is about 10 lakh today. Brahmpuri\nwas the first neighbourhood. The city is known for its heritage and culture.
