Jaipur: Rajasthan high court has imposed a temporary ban on\nthe 15% quota of NRI students in the government medical colleges. Nearly 212\nseats were reserved under NRI quota and with the ban, the admission to fill\nthese seats might get affected this academic session. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The order came on a petition filed by Mahatma Gandhi University.\nThe bench of Justice SP Sharma has ordered Medical Council of India and\nRajasthan government to submit an explanation by July 22. The court has asked\nthe government not to give admission to NRI students under the quota in government\nmedical colleges till the next hearing. The counselling for admissions in the government\ncolleges is already undergoing in the state. The order will affect admissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government had made the provision of 15% quota for NRI\nstudents for the first time. Mahatma Gandhi University filed a petition stating\nthat the government doesn\u2019t the authority to announce such a quota for medical\ncolleges. The petitioner further stated that as per the Supreme Court\ndirectives, this quota is for private medical colleges only. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government had come up with the quota for NRI students\nto boost revenue. Five new medical colleges were recently opened with an\ninvestment of crores of rupees. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
