Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has banned production,\nstorage, distribution and retail sale of e-cigarettes on the world no tobacco\nday on Friday. Chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that the ban on e-cigarettes\nwas taken considering its il-effects on the health of the smoker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have a taken a landmark decision towards encouraging\nyouths to quit tobacco on the world no-tobacco day,\u201d said Gehlot after the\ndecision to ban e-cigarettes was taken in a meeting held at the chief minister\u2019s\noffice in the state secreteriate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe had promised before the assembly elections that we would\ntake concrete steps to help youths quit addictions. This is one of the\nsignificant decisions in this direction,\u201d Gehlot said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rajasthan health minister Raghu Sharma said that youths who\nwant to quit smoking are being misled by advertisements that e-cigarettes help\nquit the addiction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have decided to ban any type of advertisement promoting e-cigarettes,\u201d\nsaid Raghu Sharma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister added that keeping in view the growing use of e-cigarettes\namong youths, the state government had set up a committee of doctors to look\ninto the ill-effects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe committee studies the findings made with regard to the\nuse of e-cigarettes and their effect on the health. It was found that e-cigarettes\nare actually very harmful. So we decided to ban it,\u201d said Sharma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
e-cigarettes are advertised as an alternative tobacco\nproducts; however it contains harmful chemicals and toxins that have health\nrisks. The chemicals and toxins may cause serious health problems,\nincluding cancer. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
