Jaipur: The Jaipur City Transport Service Limited (JCTL) will\npurchase nearly 600 new public transport buses to make it convenient for the\ncity residents to travel within the city. Most low-floor buses are in bad condition.\nThey not only are increasing pollution in the city, but have also been involved\nin many mishaps. Most of the road accidents involving mini-buses were caused\ndue to their poor condition and the lack of maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A meeting was held at JMC headquarters on Friday. In the\nmeeting it was decided to buy nearly 600 new public transport buses for the\ncity. Of them, 300 buses will be smaller. Most of them will be electric. Only\n50 will run on diesel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe smaller buses will be introduced in the Walled City\nmarkets. Currently, only low-floor buses are being operated in these markets. They\ncause traffic jams and increase pollution,\u201d said a JMC officer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The JCTL will need to purchase these buses within the next\ncouple of months. The model code of conduct will be enforced soon after that,\nso it won\u2019t be possible for JCTL to purchase these buses when the elections for\nthe civic bodies are announced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nearly 250 low floor buses are running on the city roads\nnow. Many accidents have been reported due to the rash driving by the drivers\nand the poor maintenance of the buses. In some cases, the buses even caught\nfire. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
