According to the amendments municipal corporation mayor and city council and municipality chairman will be elected directly by the public votes rather than the councilors.<\/p>\n<p>The Congress-led government amended the rules in accordance with their election manifesto. This system will be implemented in the 193 bodies in the upcoming elections. Earlier during the BJP-led government, the municipality officials used to get elected by councilors.<\/p>\n<p>The Congress-led government in 2009 adopted the direct election system by the public to choose the mayors and BJP led government changed the rule in 2014 and the mayor and chairmen were elected by councilors rather than the public.<\/p>\n<p>This new direct election system will also be adopted in other states including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jharkhand.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Senior Law Advisor of DLB Ashok Singh, the tenure of the elected board will be five years.<\/p>\n<p>The elections will be held for 44 bodies including Jaipur in November this year and a total of 137 local bodies will be elected in the state next year. After that, the election for the remaining or newly formed bodies will be held in the state.<\/p>\n<p>In this way by the year 2019 and 2020, all the 193 bodies of Municipality will be elected by the public in three phases in the state.
