Jaipur: The Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve near Bundi has got its first tigress.

Tigress T-106 was relocated to Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve from Ranthambore National Park on Tuesday evening. Tiger T-91 had been relocated to Mukundra Hills nearly eight months ago. The relocation of a tigress in Mukundra will likely increase the tiger population in the reserve.

The forest department officials tranquilized Tigress T-106 for the shifting. She is being currently kept in enclosures, but will soon be released into an 82 square km fenced area of Mukundra, which Tiger T-91 has been already roaming for the past eight months.

Tigress T-106 is the daughter of Tigress T-39 (‘Noor’) and is two years old. A tracking device has been attached to T-106 to monitor her location and activity in Mukundra.

The relocation was conducted under the supervision of Ranthambore field director YK Sahu on Tuesday.

The forest department issued orders to shift two tigresses to Mukundra from Ranthambore on Monday after the Rajasthan high court recently gave a green signal to shifting from Ranthambore National Park by dismissing a petition filed by activist Ajay Shankar Dubey.

The second tigress will be shifted to Mukundra within a week.

The petition filed by Ajay Shankar Dubey opposed the shifting of the tiger ‘T-91’ from Ranthambore to Mukundra Hills. The petition alleged that the shifting violated the wildlife laws and demanded the relocation of tigers to their natural habitat.
