Jaipur: The Rajasthan University (RU) administration has decided to digitally verify the identity of students to thwart attempts of fake voting in the upcoming RU student union elections 2018. The university administration has bought 13 machines that will scan the bar code on the ID cards of the students and allow their entry only when their identification is verified. This is for the first time that such a step has been taken.<\/p>\n
These machines looks like mobile phone \u00a0and will be installed at Rajasthan University and all its constituent colleges \u2013 Maharaja College, Maharani College, Rajasthan College and Commerce College. Five of these machines will be installed at the RU\u2019s entrance gate, while 2 at each college.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe machine will scan the bar code on the ID cards of the students and provide all the details including the student\u2019s name, mobile number, address and department. Once the identification is verified, the student will be allowed to vote in the student union elections 2018,\u201d said a RU officer.<\/p>\n
The officer said that there had been complaints of bogus voting in the previous elections, so it was decided to digitally verify the identity of students.<\/p>\n
The same machines will be then installed at RU\u2019s central library. The university administration had seized hundreds of fake ID cards which people used to get unauthorized entry into the library.<\/p>\n
