Punjab-based gangster Lawrence Bishnoi seems to have teamed up with a local goon Harendra Choudhry alias Harendra Jat to turn Jodhpur into their extortion den.<\/p>\n<p>The names of these two criminals cropped up earlier this year in several cases of extortion attempts in Jodhpur.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unidentified peopled opened fire at the house of Dr Sunil Chandak, the owner of Sriram Hospital in March. Dr Sunil received a phone call within 17 hours of the firing from a man demanding protection money.<\/li>\n<li>Another victim was Manish Jain who owns a travel agency by the name of Jain Travels in Jodhpur. Some criminals fired on his house on the same day. Both Dr Sunil and Manish are under police protection at present.<\/li>\n<li>On June 20, the same gang of criminals opened fire on the house of one Ritesh Lohia in Jodhpur.<\/li>\n<li>Vasudev Israni who was shot dead in Jodhpur on September 17 had been fired at by some criminals in March also. Vasudev Israni had a narrow escape at that time. He received an internet call from Harendra Choudhary 15 days ago. Harendra was demanding protection money and threatened to kill Vasudev if he didn\u2019t pay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lawrence Bishnoi, a resident of Ferozepur in Punjab, is a former leader of Student Organization of Punjab University (SOPU). He had been involved in many incidents of student clashes. He then entered the world of crime. He first started looting cars and then formed an extortion gang in Punjab. His father was a farmer.<\/p>\n<p>Lawrence Bishnoi entered the world of crime by becoming a close associate of Punjab gangster Amandeep Happy Deora. Lawrence escaped police custody while being produced in an SAS Nagar court in Chandigarh in January. He was rearrested in March.<\/p>\n<p>Harendra Choudhary, a resident of Dasnia in Jodhpur district, had been arrested in connection with robberies at Maha Mandir and with a Discom Vigilance team in Osian.<\/p>\n<p>Harendra Choudhary came in contact with members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in the jail. These gang members put him in touch with Lawrence Bishnoi.<\/p>\n<p>There are reports that Lawrence Bishnoi was running his extortion gang from prisons in Rajasthan. He was earlier lodged in a Jodhpur jail and then shifted to high security jail in Ajmer.
