JAIPUR: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a smuggler and seized gold worth Rs 2.25 crore. The accused was caught while trying to supply the gold from Guwahati to Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports, the DRI had received input about a large consignment of gold being smuggled from Guwahati to Delhi. Following this, the team intercepted the accused smuggler near Mehandipur Balaji.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When the vehicle was searched, the DRI team found 20 gold biscuits worth Rs 2.25 crore hidden under the back seat. The gold was of foreign origin and had a purity of 99.5%, indicating that it was smuggled into India through sea routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The accused initially denied any knowledge of the gold but later confessed during interrogation. He also revealed that he had smuggled gold several times in the past.
