JAIPUR: The Supreme Court has rejected the state government’s appeal to revoke the bail granted to Sarwar Azmi, who is an accused in the Jaipur bomb blast case. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This decision upholds the October 2023 order of the Rajasthan High Court that ordered his release on bail. The state government argued that despite being acquitted in the main case, Azmi should not be granted bail due to his involvement in other bomb blast cases across the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the division bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra refused to interfere with the High Court’s order. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In December 2019, four accused were sentenced to death by a special court for their involvement in eight cases related to the Jaipur bomb blasts that occurred on May 13, 2008, resulting in 71 deaths and injuring 185 people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
One accused was acquitted while another was considered a minor at the time of incident by the High Court. The accused argued that they were re-arrested in connection with an old live bomb case as a means to prevent one of them from being released from jail. Eventually, all accused were acquitted by March 2023 except for Mohammad Sarwar Azmi who received bail from the High Court in October later that year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
