JAIPUR: Good news has emerged from Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar, as a tigress named ST-14 has been spotted on camera with two cubs, bringing the total number of tigers in Sariska to 27. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cubs are approximately two months old and were spotted moving normally alongside their mother. What makes this tigress special is that she has so far given birth to a total of seven cubs, with two born in 2023, three born in 2020, and two born in 2018. Sariska is about 100 km from the state capital, Jaipur. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the camera traps on February 27, the Sariska administration has increased its monitoring of the tigress and her cubs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This particular tigress had previously given birth to three cubs in November 2020, and now the new litter has been sighted in the Dabli-Sukola forest area of the Akbarpur range in Sariska. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sariska’s Chief Conservator of Forests and Area Director, RN Meena, confirmed the sighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Forest officials attribute the increase in tiger population to the displacement of villages from within Sariska, particularly Dabli, which has been completely displaced, and Sukola, which is half displaced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The safe territory created as a result of this displacement has allowed the tigress ST-14 to give birth to her latest litter of cubs. This is in addition to the three cubs she gave birth to in November 2020, who have now grown into fully grown adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The presence of 27 tigers in Sariska is excellent news for nature enthusiasts and tourists, who will now have more opportunities to spot these magnificent creatures. In recent months, one tiger was brought from Ranthambore to Sariska, while two other tigers were previously reported missing. However, the arrival of these new cubs is expected to bring renewed energy and vibrancy to the reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DFO DP Jagawat has confirmed that there are now 27 tigers in Sariska, consisting of 13 female tigers and 8 male tigers. The female tigers include ST-7, ST-8, ST-2, ST-7, ST-9, ST-10, ST-12, ST-17, ST-14, ST-19, and ST-22, while the male tigers include ST-15, ST-20, ST-21, ST-18, ST-23, ST-24, ST-25, and Tiger 113.
