Jaipur: The city police on Wednesday arrested a woman, identified as Komal, for allegedly blackmailing a 68-year-old man for 11 years on the basis of some photographs showing him in a compromising situation. The 40-year-old woman had extorted nearly Rs 50 lakh over the past 11 years from the man whose identity was withheld by the police.
The woman was allegedly caught red-handed taking money from the elderly man at her flat. Police officials said that the woman owns a flat in Mangalam City situated on Kalwar Road in Kardhani police station area.
“The woman was taking Rs 40000-50000 per month from the elderly man. She was asking for more money when the victim informed the police,” said a police officer.
The officer said that two teams were formed under the supervision of SHO Kardhani Anil Jasoria. When the man was handing over money, the woman was arrested.
“She was caught red-handed. The victim told us that he had given nearly Rs 50 lakh to the woman over the past 11 years. He said that he didn’t have any more money and despite pleading with her repeatedly she was increasing her demand,” said the officer.
The woman allegedly asked the victim to deposit money in different bank accounts.
Initially, she used to demand Rs 20,000. Then she increased the amount to Rs 35,000. She has been taking Rs 50,000 since 2014, the officer said adding that she demanded Rs 2 lakh from him in June.
“He didn’t have that much money, so he approached the police and registered a complaint. Further investigation is going on,” said the officer.
