Vasudev Devnani elected Speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly

JAIPUR: Former Education Minister and BJP MLA from Ajmer North, Vasudev Devnani, was elected unopposed as Speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly. The proceedings were adjourned until January 19 following the election.
CM Bhajanlal Sharma proposed the name of Devnani as speaker first. Former CM Vasundhara Raje, Deputy CM Diya Kumari, and RLPA MLA Hanuman Beniwal also proposed his name. the tradition of unanimous election for Speaker in Rajasthan Assembly followed again this time.
Vasudev Devnani, upon assuming post of Speaker, emphasizes fairness and maintaining dignity of the office of the Speaker regardless of political party affiliation. New MLAs were encouraged to study rules and actively participate in House proceedings.
CM Bhajanlal Sharma expressed hope that with Devnani as Speaker, Assembly’s glorious history will be enhanced. Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are being run by members from this assembly – Om Birla and Jagdeep Dhankhar – a source of pride, he said.
Former Deputy CM Sachin Pilot addressed Devnani directly, emphasizing importance of rising above party politics on this big post to make it more glorious.
