Jaipur: A 34-year-old woman, identified as Shashi Rathore and her 7-year-old son Kanishka were found hanging in two different rooms at their house in Nityanand Nagar in Vaishali Nagar on Monday afternoon.

After preliminary investigation, police suspect that Shashi hanged her son and then committed suicide.

The police have found a 3-page suicide note that mentions depression over not being able to get a job even after completing BEd and PHD. The woman’s husband, Garvendra Singh, is an associate professor at LBS College.

In a statement, Garvendra told the police that he found the door bolted from inside when he returned from college on Monday afternoon. He knocked repeatedly, but got no response.

He then peeked into the house through a window and saw his son hanging from the ceiling.

Garvendra gained entry with the help of his neighbors. Her wife and son were hanging in two different rooms.

A 3-page suicide note was found from the couple’s bedroom.

A police officer said that the woman was depressed over not being able to land a job even after getting BEd and PHD degrees. The suicide note reportedly mentions sporadic incidents of domestic violence over petty issues.

The police said that the woman’s elder son is staying with Shashi’s mother for the past several days.

Police said that prima-facie it seems Shashi murdered her son and then hanged herself, but they have sealed the house for further investigation.

The family was living in a rented accommodation.
