Jaipur: The vaccination for those above 18 years will begin in Rajasthan on Saturday, but in the first phase, the vaccination for this age group will be allowed only in 11 districts that are the worst affected by the Covid-19 situation.

Earlier, health and medical minister Dr Raghu Sharma told the media persons that the government will vaccinate people aged between 35 years and 45 years across the state, but this decision was withdrawn within a few hours. The government now says that the vaccination in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, Alwar, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Sikar, Ajmer, Dhaulpur, and Pali districts will begin for all those above 18 years on Saturday.

Dr Raghu Sharma said that about 3.25 crore people between the age of 18 to 45 years are to be vaccinated in the state. The state government has ordered 3.75 crore vaccines from the Serum Institute. The company has promised to deliver only 3 lakh doses in the next couple of days.

Dr Sharma had earlier told media persons that the government was planning to begin the vaccination drive in nine districts for people between 35 and 45 years.

But nearly four hours after this statement, the medical department issued a press bulletin quoting the minister. It said that from May 1, people above 18 years will be vaccinated starting May 1, but only in those 11 districts.
