ACB trap: Udaipur Smart City Project finance adviser, middleman arrested for taking Rs 2 lakh bribe

Jaipur: The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested a financial adviser working for Smart City Project in Udaipur with an additional charge in Udaipur Municipal Corporation and his middleman after they were allegedly arrested taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. The financial adviser, identified as Abid Khan and middleman – Arif – were booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

ACB DG Alok Tripathi said that a contractor registered a complaint against them with the agency. In the written complaint, the contractor stated that he got the work order for supplying vehicles for Smart City Project and Udaipur Municipal Corporation. A payment of Rs 50 lakh was pending against the work he had undertaken. Abid Khan allegedly demanded Rs 6 lakh to process the payment and provide other administrative help, Triapthi said. After negotiation, Abid Khan agreed to accept Rs 3 lakh.

The complaint was verified under the supervision of Add SP Sanjeev Jain. Abid Khan accepted Rs   1 lakh at the time of verification of the complaint, the officer said adding that a trap was laid on Friday. Abid and middleman Arif were arrested taking the remaining bribe amount of Rs 2 lakh.

Searches were going at the residences and other places belonging to the duo. Further investigation is going on.
