Udaipur: Scrap dealer arrested for Rs 8 crore GST evasion

Jaipur: A team of Central GST Commissionerate has arrested a scrap dealer from Udaipur for evading tax to the tune of about Rs 8 crore. The accused, identified as Anil Kumar Arora, hails from Punjab and transported scrap items from various cities of Rajasthan to Punjab. He was allegedly caught evading tax on bills amounting to Rs 44 crore.
The GST team has also sealed a truck carrying scrap. Anil Kumar was under the scanner for a while. According to sources, a man, identified as Pawan Kumar Sharma, had been arrested in a similar case in Punjab in March. The GST Commissionerate got a tip-off about Anil in their probe against Anil. He was transporting scrap on Sunday when he was arrested. He was taken to Jodhpur where he will be produced in a court. From his Udaipur residence, the team has seized a laptop, mobile phone, and other documents.
Sources said that the accused man was buying and selling scrap without billing and transporting it without e-way bills. According to preliminary reports, the team has so far unearthed tax evasion of Rs 7 crore. The laptop and documents seized from him were being examined. Further investigation is going on.
