Jaipur: A court on Thursday remanded the two men – accused of brutally murdering Kanhaiyalal Sahu in Udaipur – to judicial custody for 14 days. As the links of the duo with some terror organizations are under scanner, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is likely to seek their police remand for further investigation. They are suspected to be part of a sleeper cell that was active in Udaipur division of the state.
The Rajasthan Police produced both the accused in the Udaipur district court on Thursday amid heavy security arrangements. The situation on the court premises became tense when some lawyers started shouting slogans against the duo.
The Rajasthan government and the NIA are making different claims regarding the terrorist connections of the killers. After taking over the investigation of the incident, the NIA has claimed that the link of the killers with any terrorist organization has not come to the fore whereas a day earlier, the Rajasthan government had claimed that both were associated with international terror organizations.
Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot met the family members of Kanhaiyalal, in Udaipur. Gehlot assured all possible help to Kanhaiyalal’s family members.
Gehlot told the media persons- NIA should get the punishment quickly in this case within a month. NIA should understand the sentiment of the people of the state? Whether Kanhaiya was given security or not, what was lacking, all things will come out in the NIA investigation, he said.
The call for Jaipur bandh on Thursday was successful. Most markets were completely closed in the city. Hindu right-wing organisations had called for a bandh in Jaipur in protest of the incident.
