Udaipur: 16-year-old girl commits suicide by jumping off 6th floor of apartment building

Jaipur: A 16-year-old girl who was preparing for medical entrance examinations in Kota allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a sixth floor of an apartment building in Sukher area of Udaipur district. She had come to visit her family in Udaipur and appear in Class 12 examinations. According to preliminary investigation, the girl was under stress due to the pressure of studies.

The girl, identified as Shodashi Patel was living with her mother and maternal grandmother in Dhirendra Apartment in Sukher area. Her father Milan Patel works in Africa. The girl was studying in Kota and had come to Udaipur to appear in class 12 exam.

The indent took place around 7.30 pm on Thursday. The girl had left home saying that she was going for a walk. The family members heard screams following which they rushed out of their flat. The girl was lying in a pool of blood with other residents surrounding her.

“Prima-facie, it seems that the girl committed suicide because the boundary wall of the apartment building is about 4 feet high. The girl couldn’t have fallen off accidently,” said a police officer.

The officer added that the body has been sent for a postmortem examination. The statements of her family members are being recorded.

“She was apparently under stress; however, the investigation is continuing. We will be able to say anything about what caused her to take the extreme step after we finish the probe,” said the officer.
