Jaipur: To tackle the problem of traffic in the city, the government has decided to construct a 4-km long tunnel from Ramnivas Bagh to Jorawar Singh gate. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1200 to Rs 1500 crores. The project is a part of the Smart City model that has been adopted by the city.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved this project. By next month, the DPR is expected to receive an approval from the Center as well. As a part of this project, Johari bazaar will be declared as a no-vehicle zone and an underground parking space will be created here. In 2016, the state government had asked a company called Narayan Lamba Consultancy to prepare a feasibility report for the same. The company has handed over the report to the authorities.
Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) NC Goyal had given a presentation on this project to CM Vasundhara Raje and Central Cabinet Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi and the latter had given a theoretical approval for the same.
Goyal said, “The project to build this four km tunnel is very important for Jaipur. After receiving the theoretical approval from the center, work is being done to receive the DPR. This project will provide relief to local people as well as tourists. In particular, the city will get relief from the traffic problems. Also, the city will get a new look.”
