Jaipur: The Rajasthan transport department has received orders from the state government to start issuing E-challan to traffic offenders. Jaipur will be the first city in which E-challan will be introduced. This system will be rolled out in other districts of the state in the second phase.

E-challan electronic devices will be provided to traffic police and transport officials using which they will issue E-challans to the offenders.

An integrated e-challan system is expected to bring in more transparency in penalizing vehicles violating the Motor Vehicles Act. As soon as an e-challan is issued, the owner of the vehicle will get an SMS on their mobile number.

According to SK Agarwal, Additional chief secretary of transport department, training will be imparted to transport officials on how to use E-challan software and devices by August end. The transport department is planning to launch this online service by September start. E-challan was issued to a couple of traffic rules violators as a demo in Jaipur.

Advantages of E-challan.

  • After an E-challan is issued, there will be no changes in it by the traffic police. This will bring transparency to the process. Only the DTO level officer will be able to make changes in it as per the rules.
  • The e-challan devices will have an option of clicking the photograph of the offender and his\her vehicle as proof.
  • There will be no need for the transport official to send information to the main transport office. It will be directly uploaded in the online software.
  • Paperless work will be done with more credible records.
