Jaipur: Tension prevailed in Bundi after the police prevented supporters of Hindu Mahasabha from organizing prayers on Mandata Chhatari, a religious place, under investigation of the archaeological department.
The cops had clamped section 144 of CrPC on Sunday, banning gathering of people in response to Hindu Mahasabha’s announcement that they would organize prayers on Mandata Chhatari.
When some people tried to reach Mandata Chhatari on Monday, police resorted to lathicharge.
The police had suspended internet services in the town to prevent spread of rumours.
The religious place is situated on Tiger Hill near Jaitsagar Lake in Bundi town.
Hindu Mahasabha in a statement had said that they would take out a march from noon and reach the religious place. They claimed that the march would be peaceful; however, when it reached near the place the police officers first warned them not to go further. But the members of Hindu Mahasabha didn’t budge and when they continued with their march, the police used force to disperse them.
The supporters reportedly hurled stones on the police and then reached the bus stand where they demonstrated against police lathicharge. They blocked a road and shouted slogans.
Senior police officers including IG Vishal Bansal and SP, Bundi rushed to the spot to monitor the law and order situation.
