Teenager drowns in Pushkar Lake

The deceased has been identified as Rohit who was a resident of Vaishali Nagar in Ajmer. He arrived at Pushkar with his friends and family on Saturday night. He and his friends went into the lake at 5 am to take a bath in the holy lake and offer prayers to Lord Shiva.

Jaipur: A teenager drowned in the holy lake of Pushkar when he was taking a bath in the wee hours on Sunday. It took the rescue teams almost an hour to pull his body out of the lake.

The incident took place at 5:00 am. The deceased has been identified as Rohit who was a resident of Vaishali Nagar in Ajmer. He arrived at Pushkar with his friends and family on Saturday night. He and his friends went into the lake at 5 am to take a bath in the holy lake and offer prayers to Lord Shiva. Rohit went into deep water while bathing and died due to drowning, said a police official.

When Rohit disappeared, family members and friends started to panic. Locals informed the police.

The cops tried to search for Rohit in the water with the help of local swimmers but in vain. A rescue team of NRDF (National Resource Development Foundation) and Civic Defence were called to the spot. The rescuers dived into the water and started a search for Rohit. The body of the deceased was pulled out from the water at 6:30 am. Rohit had died by then.

The police handed over the body to the family members of the deceased after a post-mortem examination at a government hospital in Pushkar.

Several cases of deaths due to drowning have been reported in Rajasthan over past one week.
