Jaipur: The airport administration has withdrawn one more decision regarding the parking of vehicles in the porch area. After doing away with the entry fee of Rs 80 rupees, the administration has decided to allow the parking of vehicles for up to 5 minutes. From November 1, the vehicles could be parked only for three minutes in the airport porch without any penalties. The decision was taken after the Rajasthan government made it clear that new parking rules were not practical.

Before November 1, the vehicles could take up to 8 minutes while dropping and picking passengers at the airport. “This led to traffic congestion in the porch area, so we decided to reduce the number of minutes to 3 on a trial basis. But it came up that the passengers were facing problems as the time was not sufficient so we have decided to increase it to 5 minutes,” said a senior Jaipur airport official.

Sources said the shortage of time led to heated arguments between the airport staff and the vehicle owners.

The authorities had earlier said that a penalty of Rs 500 will be imposed on vehicles that stay on the porch for more than three minutes. Earlier, a four-wheeler was given a maximum time of eight minutes to enter and exit the airport barriers. This system has been discontinued. Instead, there will be no restrictions with regard to the number of minutes. However, the vehicle that need to wait for a pick up or drop at the airport have to park their vehicles in the parking. The taxis and vehicles can’t wait for the passengers in the parking area for more than five minutes now.
