Surat tragedy: JMC action against coaching centres in Jaipur a mere eyewash
Jaipur: Waking up from slumber following the horrifying fire tragedy in Surat town of Gujarat, the Jaipur Municipal Cooperation (JMC) has started inspecting coaching centers in the city.
Notices were served to 24 coaching centres and the JMC teams conducted an inspection on Monday; however it is alleged that the action was just eyewash. The coaching centres didn’t make any upgrades in the fire safety arrangements. In fact, most coaching centres don’t have any fire fighting equipment installed.
“We had served notices to 24 coaching centres. Of them, our teams inspected nine. We found some lapses and issued instructions to fix them. We will take further action if the fire safety norms are not followed. We will continue the inspection on Tuesday,” said a senior JMC officer.
The instructions were verbal. No formal communication in this regard was made, sources said adding that most of the coaching centres inspected on Monday had fire no-objection certificates (NOC).
The parents of a coaching centre situated in Lalkothi area told The PinkCity Post that a fire had broken out at the centre nearly two months ago; however, no action was taken against its authorities by the JMC.
The coaching centers which were inspected by JMC teams include Paramount Coaching Centre, Vision Academy, KSC Institute of IAS, Chankya IAS Academy , CLAT Coaching Classes, Pragya Coaching Classes, Mothers Education Hub, Gantavya Career Institute, QIT Academy Coaching Centre.
Most of these coaching centres didn’t have the permission for running commercial activities.
The district administration has also constituted a committee headed by the ADM Fourth.
“We will check the coaching centres to ensure that they are following all the norms,” district collector Jagroop Singh Yadav said.
