Subhangana suicide case: Mystery prevails over what drove the fashion designer to end her life

Jaipur: Subhangana Raj alias Ruchira Surana, a famous fashion designer and the chairperson of Jasoda Devi Colleges and Institutions, allegedly committed suicide at her house in C-Scheme’s Gokhale Marg on Friday night. Her father, Prem Surana, is the chairman of Deepshikha Group of Colleges.

Her shocking death came to the knowledge of her son, Mihir Sawlani on Friday night. When she didn’t come out of her room till late morning, Mihir and the house-maid knocked on the door and got no response. She was found hanging from the ceiling.

The family members rushed her to SMS Hospital where she was declared brought dead. The police have sealed the room.

Her husband, Rajkumar Sawlani, is a businessman. He was allegedly staying at the Sitapura-situated college on Friday night. They had married reportedly after a courtship.

Forty-year-old Subhangana was allegedly under depression for the past few months.

Family members were quoted as saying that she was depressed over business matters.

Celebrities such as Bollywood actor Salman Khan and cricketer Virat Kohli were acquainted with her and had visited her in Jaipur. Subhangana is credited with launching fashion designing courses in Jaipur. She owned a fashion designing institute in Bapu Nagar.

She had dinner with her son on Friday evening and went to her room. She then committed suicide.

As per the family members, her name was Ruchira Surana, but she changed it after her marriage.

Ashok Nagar police is probing the suicide case. The body was handed over to family members after a postmortem examination.
