Rajasthan University student union election dates 2018

Jaipur: The higher education department on Monday announced the dates for Rajasthan University (RU) student union elections 2018. The voting for RU election 2018 will take place on August 31, and as the polling date is just 10 days away, the student unions and independent candidates are set to intensify their campaigning.

The RU student elections will be more intense this time because independent candidates had managed to grab the president’s seat for the past two years. The RU leaders took out a show of strength rally at its Jaipur campus on Monday.

Both the student organization ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidharthi Parishad) and NSUI (National Students Union of India) will need to go the extra mile to ensure victory in the students’ election. As the elections are taking place ahead of upcoming assembly polls, a direct involvement of senior BJP and Congress leaders is also expected. NSUI is a Congress-backed union and ABVP is a BJP- supported one.

The RU students are now curious as to which candidates will be the nominated by ABVP and NSUI. ABVP and NSUI had been dominating the elections for several years, but the unions won’t like to take any chances this time as independent candidates have grabbed the president post at RU over the past two years.

To prevent attempts of fake voting in the RU student union elections 2018 the RU administration has decided to digitally verify the identity of students. The university administration has bought 13 machines that will scan the barcode and hologram on the ID cards of the students and allow their entry only when their identity is verified. This is for the first time that such a step has been taken.

To control the ruckus created during student union elections, the Rajasthan University administration and police have warned that they would strictly deal with those violating election code of conduct. The police have said that vehicles with posters and banners will not be allowed on the campus. The RU administration will issue entry passes to vehicles. People who are not RU students will not be allowed to enter the premises.

The student leaders of RU are doing promotions for the elections for the past one month. The FIR was also lodged under various sections against the student leaders for defacing public walls on RU campus and around Jaipur with posters and banners.
