Stampede in Khatushyam: Local SHO suspended; CM orders inquiry

JAIPUR: Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot has ordered an inquiry into the stampede incident in which three people were killed and four others injured on Monday. The local SHO has been suspended amid allegations that the local police didn’t make any arrangement to control the crowd of devotees.

A huge crowd of devotees gathered outside the temple on Ekadashi. They were waiting for the gates to open. As soon as they opened, a stampede broke out.

The accident happened at 5 am, when the crowd of devotees increased significantly for darshan on the occasion of Ekadashi. It has come up during preliminary investigation that about one lakh people were outside the gate. As soon as the doors of the temple opened in the morning, the crowd became uncontrollable and a stampede broke out.

Sikar SP Kunwar Rashtradeep has suspended Khatu SHO Riya Chaudhary.

The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Divisional Commissioner Vikas Sitaram Bhale will investigate the entire matter.

After the gate opened, a woman fell unconscious due to the scuffle.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident.

Shivcharan (50), Manohar (40), Indra Devi (55) of Karnal, Anoji (40) of Alwar were injured in the stampede. Manohar’s condition is critical. He has been referred to Jaipur.
