Stamp duty in Rajasthan increased by 20%
Water and electricity connections, affidavits and agreements to get costlier.

Jaipur: Non-judicial stamps have become costlier in Rajasthan. The government increased stamp duty required for water and electricity connections, preparing affidavits, and validating agreements by 20 percent. After the increased duty came into effect, stamp vendors have started charging the revised rates.

Registry and stamps department has added a surcharge of 10 percent each for cow protection and infrastructure facilities. People will have to pay Rs 600 for agreements. The stamp duty was Rs 500 earlier. Similarly, Rs 2,400 will be charged for power of attorney compared to the previous duty of Rs 2,000.

Until now, people had to pay 20 percent surcharge for cow protection and infrastructure facility only when registering land.
Stamp vendors at Jaipur Development Authority, District Collectorate, courts and JMC have already started selling stamp papers according to the revised rates.
Congress state unit in Rajasthan has opposed the increase in stamp duty. Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Pratap Singh Khachariawas said that the state government had increased the stamp duty in a hushed up manner. The state government has tasked a private with the sale of stamp papers for commission.
“It is corruption. Nearly Rs 33 crore are being paid to the company in commission,” Khachariawas alleged.
