Jaipur: Police in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district have seized five pistols, 72 cartridges, nearly 1.5 kilograms of heroin and 990 grams of opium from a car after a chase near the international border on Monday, arresting two men from Fazilka in Punjab.
Sameja Kothi police station officers carried out the operation on May 4 following a tip-off received by Constable Kaluram during patrolling. According to police, the information indicated that two young men in a Kia Sonet had reached the border area to take delivery of narcotics.
Police said the suspect vehicle was first spotted moving from Salempura towards Bajuwala, but turned back and rammed a private Bolero belonging to Assistant Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar before speeding towards Sameja Kothi. Multiple police teams that had been deployed in the area then set up a tractor-trolley barricade on the outskirts of the town.
The suspects allegedly tried to break through the blockade, hitting the tractor-trolley with their car before being forced to a halt. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a bag containing five pistols, 72 cartridges, 1 kilogram 494 grams of heroin and 990 grams of opium, police said.
The two arrested men have been identified as Kulwinder Singh, son of Karnail Singh, and Robin Singh, son of Balkar Singh — both residents of Mahatma Nagar in Fazilka, Punjab. A case has been registered against them under the relevant sections, and further legal action is in progress.
Sriganganagar Superintendent of Police Harishankar supervised the action, which comes amid stepped-up surveillance of the border belt ordered by Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma. Police said Constables Surajbhan and Kaluram played a key role in cracking the case.
