Jaipur: The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested Dr Ramavatar – a senior doctor of Sriganganagar government district hospital – after he was allegedly caught taking a bribe of Rs 2,000 for carrying out a surgery. The accused doctor was posted as medical officer of ENT department in the hospital.

Ramavatar who hails from Srimadhopur town in Sikar district was trapped after one Deepak Kumar registered a complaint against him with ACB, according to the officials. Deepak alleged that the doctor asked him to pay Rs 3,000 for carrying out surgery to treat his wife’s ears.

“When the complaint was found genuine, we laid a trap. The medical officer took Rs 1,000 during ACB verification of the complaint. He was trapped on Tuesday when he was accepting the remaining amount of Rs 2,000,” said a senior ACB officer.

The doctor was caught red-handed and booked under various section of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He was arrested. Searches were going on at his office, residence and other places belonging to him till the reports last came in.

The trap was laid under the supervision of ACB DySP Vedprakash. Further investigation is going on.
