JAIPUR: An additional SP of Rajasthan special operations group (SOG), identified as Divya Mittal, was arrested on Monday on charges of demanding a bribe of Rs 2 crore through an expelled constable, according to officials. Add SP Divya Mittal is currently posted in the Ajmer branch of SOG and allegedly demanded the bribe for not registering a case against a suspected drug smuggler in a narcotics smuggling case.
Divya allegedly demanded the bribe not only for herself but also in the name of senior SOG officials, according to a press release issued by ACB.
ACB received a complaint following which a preliminary investigation was launched. The complaint was verified under the supervision of ACB add SP Bajrang Singh Shekhawat.
“During the verification of the complaint, it was found that Divya was demanding Rs 2 crore through a middleman, Sumit Kumar – who is an expelled constable. The ACB complainant negotiated the amount and agreed to Rs 50 lakh in two installments – one immediately and one after the wedding of his sister,” said ADG ACB Dinesh MN.
But add SP Divya Mittal allegedly got a tip-off about the ACB complaint and her middleman refused to receive the bribe amount.
The ACB then obtained a warrant from a court and raided several places belonging to Add SP Mittal. She was then arrested under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The middleman, Sumit, is at large, according to ACB. Further investigation is going on.
