SMS Hospital trauma center to have 20 more beds for accident victims

Jaipur: To help patients who are seeking treatment for accident-related injuries, the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital will soon have a 20-bed ICU in its trauma center. An amount of Rs 5 crores will be spent on this ICU which is expected to be ready in three months time. The cost of each bed is estimated about Rs 25 lakhs. The announcement of starting this new facility was made by public works and transport minister Yunus Khan who was addressing doctors and nursing care professionals associated with the trauma care center. The event was a two-day ‘Triage Protocol’ workshop.

The minister stated that the government is ensuring efforts are made to generate public awareness about road safety across the state. He said that the new facility will make sure that the injured patients are attended on an urgent basis and there is no delay in the treatment process. He added that the number of deaths as a result of accidents will also be reduced and the government will make sure there is no shortage of funds for the functioning of this important trauma care center.

The medical and transport department officials have been asked by Khan to complete the tender process within 60 days. The minister emphasized on the government’s priority in providing proper treatment to the injured. Khan was addressing the medical professionals at the Jaipur Medical auditorium at the hospital which was attended by hospital superintendent Dr. Ds Meena. The doctor stated that before implementing the triage protocol, the death rate of injured was 68%, which after the triage protocol has reduced to 28%.
