SMS Hospital in Jaipur to have super specialty and organ transplant centers

Jaipur: The city’s Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital will soon have a super specialty center and an organ transplant center. The initiative was taken by chief minister Vasundhara Raje to provide better medical facilities for patients. The medical students will also benefit from this as the super specialty wing will have an increased number of seats.

The building plan was approved by the college administration two days ago. The center is going to be built for an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore under the Prime Minister Health Protection Scheme. The state government will have to manage Rs 80 crore while the central government’s share would be Rs 120 crore.

There are 71 seats of DM and MCH in the super specialty wing at present and this will go up to 108. The medical sector in the state will get a huge lift because of this initiative. The super specialty wing and organ transplant center will be created at bungalow number 9 and 10 near the trauma center.

Cardiology department will witness a 50 percent increase in super specialty seats. There will be maximum 11 in cardiology, and nephrology, three each in urology, nine in neuro surgery, seven in gastrology and four in gastroenterology.

An underpass that is presently under construction between SMS hospital and trauma center will connect to this center. CT scan and MRI machines for a cost of Rs 20 crore will be installed on one side of underground parking by the hospital administration. This is being done so that patients do not have to go to the trauma center.

US Agrawal, principal, SMS Medical College stated that preparations for super specialty center and organ transplant center have been completed. According to him, the foundation stone will be laid either this or next month. He added that the state will get more specialist doctors with an increase in the number of seats.
