SMS Blood Bank: Only hospital ward employees to get blood for patients

Jaipur: Amid reports of touts duping patients by selling blood, the SMS Hospital has put in place a new rule for getting blood from SMS Blood Bank. The blood will now be given to only hospital ward employees on behalf of the patients. Earlier the family members of patients were allowed to get blood from the blood bank.

The new system has been enforced following complaints that a network of touts was active in the hospital duping patients and their family members. Moti Doongari police had recently arrested two men for selling blood at SMS Hospital.

“There had been several such cases but since no FIRs are registered against these touts, we have let them go scot-free in some cases. It emboldens these people,” said a police officer.

A senior SMS Hospital administration officer said that only ward boys will be allowed to get blood from the Blood Bank. “The doctors till now gave a slip to the family members which could be shown at the blood bank for getting blood. The blood was provided only when the family members donated it. Now the ward boy will be given this slip,” said the officer.

However, it was yet unclear if the ward boy gets the blood from the Blood Bank, how the blood donation system will work.
