SI Babita amassed huge wealth in six years: ACB

Jaipur: Sub inspector (SI) Babita who was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh had amassed huge wealth over the past six years, according to ACB officials. ACB teams carried out searches at her house and found documents suggesting ownership of seven plots in various areas in the city including Kalwar Road, Sikar Road, Niwaru Road, Jagatpura and Tonk Road. ACB produced her and her lawyer husband Amardeep in a court that sent them to judicial custody.

The properties are in the name of Babita and her husband, ACB officials said. The agency is now trying to determine whether the properties were purchased with money made through illegal means.

Babita who is posted with Shipra Path police station in Jaipur was arrested after she was allegedly caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh at a hotel in the city. She had demanded a bribe of Rs 50 lakh for not registering a case against an online marketing advertising company under the IT Act.

ACB officials said that Amardeep collected evidence against the company. These evidence suggested online and bitcoin transactions.

Amardeep allegedly threatened the owner of the company to have a case under the IT Act registered against it with the help of his wife posted as SI in Shiprapath police station. He demanded Rs 50 Lakh as bribe.

The company’s owner agreed to pay a bribe of Rs 45 Lakh to Amardeep and Babita for not registering the case. After ACB received a complaint, a trap was laid. Babita allegedly agreed to take the first installment of Rs. 5 lakh. She went to a hotel and got trapped.
