Sikandar Alias Jeevenu who was arrested in Shastri Nagar girl rape case

Jaipur: The Jaipur police on Wednesday filed the chargesheet against Jeevanu alias Sikandar who was arrested for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old in Shashtri Nagar. The chargesheeting containing over 400 pages was filed in the special Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POSCO) Act court. The trial against the accused will begin after the charges are framed against him.

“We conducted our investigation thoroughly, but quickly in the case as the man is accused of raping a child, the most heinous crime. We filed the chargesheet within 17 days,” said a senior police officer. The police need to file a chargesheet within 90 days of arrest.

Jeevanu is accused of raping two girls in Shastri Nagar and Nahargarh within a period of just 8 days, causing widespread protests and communal tension in the city.

One of the rape survivors – a 7-year-old girl – was playing outside her home on July 1 when Jeevanu came on a bike and introduced himself as a friend of her father. He took her to an isolated place near Amanishah and raped her. He dropped the girl two hours later, profusely bleeding. The girl was first taken to Kanwatia Hospital and then referred to JK Lon Hospital.

The incident caused communal tension and widespread protests, forcing the police to shut down mobile internet to prevent the spread of rumours.

The police arrested him from Kota about a week after the incident.

The case is being monitored under the Case Officer Scheme. An Add SP level officer will supervise the trial progress and make sure that all the evidence and witnesses are produced in a timely manner.

It is suspected that Sikandar had sexually abused nearly 65 people including 25 children and 40 men and eunuchs. He is a habitual sexual offender imprisoned for life in a 2014 murder and rape case. However, he was acquitted on appeal.
