Selected sub inspectors move Supreme Court against Rajasthan SI recruitment 2021 cancellation
SLP seeks retention of honestly selected candidates; Supreme Court hearing expected in second week of May.

Jaipur: Selected sub inspectors of Rajasthan Police have moved the Supreme Court challenging the Rajasthan High Court order that scrapped the Sub Inspector Recruitment Examination 2021, arguing that the entire recruitment should not be invalidated because of wrongdoing by a section of candidates.
The special leave petition (SLP) filed by the selected sub inspectors seeks to preserve the 2021 recruitment. The petitioners have submitted that candidates who were legitimately selected on merit should be retained in service, while strict action should be taken against those who allegedly passed the examination through cheating or the paper leak. Punishing everyone for the wrongdoing of a few is not just, they have argued, adding that the High Court verdict has put their future in uncertainty.
The Supreme Court is likely to take up the matter in the second week of May. Candidates who were not selected in the 2021 examination have already filed a caveat in the apex court through Advocate Harendra Neel, which means the Supreme Court will hear their side as well before passing any order.
The move comes after a division bench of the Rajasthan High Court on 4 April upheld a single bench decision to cancel the recruitment. The division bench, led by Acting Chief Justice SP Sharma, delivered its verdict on appeals filed by the selected candidates and the state government. The bench also set aside the suo motu cognisance taken by the single bench against the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC).
The single bench had cancelled the SI Recruitment Examination 2021 on 28 August 2025, citing paper leak, irregularities and large-scale malpractices. The division bench reserved its verdict on 19 January after completion of arguments from all sides before delivering the ruling on 4 April.
The Rajasthan government’s stand on the division bench decision has not yet been made clear. During the High Court proceedings, the state had opposed a complete cancellation of the recruitment. Whether the government joins as a party in the Supreme Court is expected to become clear soon.
