Jaipur: Nearly 10 months after educational institutions were shut down to contain the spread of COVID-19, schools in Jaipur will reopen for the students of Class 9, 10, 11 and 12 on Monday. The schools will need to follow COVID-19 guidelines such as social distancing and masks. Students and teachers will be allowed entry only after a thermal screening.

Many schools are providing the students a choice. They can either come to school or attend online classes. Many parents were undecided over whether to send their wards to schools or not.

“Though the number of positive cases has come down substantially in Jaipur, I am still concerned; particularly due to the reports of new variants of the virus. I am not sure we are ready to send my son to school,” said Usha Devi, a resident of Nandpuri Colony in Sodala.

The students will be allowed entry only if they are wearing masks. Thermal screening, written consent of the parents, social distancing and hand sanitization are some of the measures that schools have been asked to follow.

Most schools are not allowing only 50% attendance. Some others are running the classes in two shifts to reduce the number of students in each class.

On Sunday, Jaipur reported only 44 new cases of COVID-19. Sodala reported 5 new cases – the highest in the city.
