Sachin Mittal takes charge as Jaipur Police Commissioner; plans crackdown on organized crime, and mafia

Jaipur: Newly appointed Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal has assumed charge of the Jaipur Commissionerate and announced that a special operation will be launched to curb organized crime and land mafia activities in the city.

Mittal, a 1996-batch IPS officer, held a meeting with senior police officials soon after taking office and issued clear directions aimed at tightening law enforcement across the Commissionerate. He emphasized restoring public confidence through visible policing, swift action against repeat offenders, and dismantling criminal networks that have gained ground in recent years.

The Commissionerate will soon form a Joint Task Force (JTF) under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Rahul Prakash, who will lead the coordinated operation against organized crime, extortion rackets, and illegal land encroachments.

During the meeting, Mittal reviewed the status of ongoing investigations and pending cases, stressing accountability and inter-departmental coordination. He also directed all Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to identify key hotspots where criminal activity and land disputes have become chronic issues.

Mittal replaces Biju George Joseph. The Commissioner also highlighted the need for community engagement and improved intelligence-gathering to prevent criminal networks from regrouping. A detailed operational blueprint is expected to be rolled out in the coming days, with particular focus on high-risk zones and repeat offenders.

The Jaipur Police leadership transition comes at a time when the city has seen a rise in organized crime-related incidents, prompting the department to adopt a more aggressive enforcement stance.

IPS officer Rahul Prakash has been appointed as Jaipur’s first Special Commissioner of Police, marking a new administrative development in the city’s police hierarchy.

Prakash, who has previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in multiple zones of Jaipur, formally assumed charge on Saturday. The newly created post of Special Commissioner will oversee several critical functions, including law and order, traffic management, and administrative coordination within the Commissionerate.

A 2009-batch IPS officer, Prakash has earned recognition for his work in field operations, crime control, and public safety initiatives. His tenure as DCP saw the successful implementation of several community policing programs and technology-driven monitoring systems.

The Special Commissioner will supervise key branches of the police, ensuring faster decision-making and better coordination between field units. The position is expected to strengthen Jaipur’s law enforcement structure at a time when the police are intensifying efforts to curb organized crime and illegal land dealings under the newly appointed Police Commissioner, Sachin Mittal.

Officials said the creation of the Special Commissioner role aims to improve the city’s policing efficiency and accountability. The post will focus on operational command, crime prevention strategy, and inter-agency coordination — functions previously managed jointly by Additional Commissioners.
