Jaipur: The police on Thursday lodged an FIR against 16 students of Rajasthan University for defacing public walls with posters and banners. The students were booked under various sections of the Rajasthan Prevention of Defacement of Property Act.

This step has been taken after the JMC and police launched the anti-defection drive against student leaders littering walls with banners and posters.

The students against whom the FIR has been lodged are Rahul Meena, Mahesh Samota, Ranveer Singh Singhania and Gaurav Yadav from the NSUI union of Rajasthan university.

The other names include Arun Sharma, Saurabh Bhankar, Sandhya Suthar, Mukesh Chaudhary, Vikram Godara, Uttam Chaudhary, Mukesh Kumar Meghvanshi, Sanjay Machedi, Manvendra Budhania, Rakesh Chaudhary, Hemant Meena and Uttam Chaudhary of Rajasthan University.

JMC teams on Thursday removed the posters pasted on walls in and around the university premises by students over the past few days.

JMC has asked police officials to be on the lookout for students who are putting up posters and banners on public walls during nights.

JMC has asked police to keep a tab in certain areas including Jyoti Nagar, Civil Lines, Airport, Bhawani Singh Road, Ram Mandir circle, Ambedkar circle, Statue circle, Ram Bagh circle, Tonk road, Gandhi Circle, JLN Marg, Malviya Nagar bridge and Jawahar Circle.

Students leaders and their supporters deface public place and put posters and banners of their union on bus shelters, speed limit boards, government buildings and other properties during the student union elections, which should be stopped as this affects tourism of the city, as per the letter issued to police by JMC.

JMC also requested the Vice-Chancellor to instruct student leaders and their supporters not to litter public places with posters and banners. The violators should not be allowed to participate in the elections.

The student union elections of 2018 will take place on August 31 in Rajasthan University and other universities of the state except for JNVU. In JNVU the polling will take place on September 10 due to CM Raje’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra.
