JAIPUR: Tensions are rising in five villages near Jaipur as the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) begins work on a major road project. The proposed 200-feet-wide road is planned to connect Tonk Road to Diggi Road. But locals say the current alignment threatens their homes and community spaces.

Villagers allege that the JDA is marking the road through densely populated areas. Many say the pillars have already been set up inside their residential zones. Residents from Kumhariyawas, Bajadoli, S. Jayasinghpura, and Mongiyawas are especially worried. They claim nearly 200 houses are now under threat of demolition.

The protests are gaining momentum. The sarpanch of Kumhariyawas has sent a memorandum to Cabinet Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra. The villagers want the road diverted through vacant land instead of their homes.

Local leaders say the project will not just displace families. Several government structures also fall within the alignment. These include a Panchayat Bhawan, a school, an anganwadi centre, a water tank, and even a temple. Villagers say about 150 to 200 structures are in the path of the road.

The road plan was originally intended to improve connectivity between Tonk Road and Diggi Road. But now, the affected communities are demanding a review. They fear irreversible damage if the project goes ahead as planned.
