Reservation lottery 2019: Both mayors in Jaipur to be women from OBC category

Jaipur: The results of the reservation lottery for the heads of local bodies in Jaipur division came out on Sunday. Jaipur city which was recently divided into Jaipur Greater (Jaipur) and Jaipur Heritage (Heritage) municipal corporation areas will have two woman mayors, both from OBC category. Of the 196 bodies of the state, 30 have been reserved from the Scheduled Castes (SC) and 6 for Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.
In Jodhpur also, both the mayors will be women, but from general category. Though women candidates from other categories can also fight the election.
The lottery was held at the local self-government department office on Sunday. Principal secretary Bhavani Singh Detha, Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner VP Singh, DLB Director Praveen Kumar and other officials and representatives of political parties were present on this occasion.
After the posts of both the mayors in Jaipur were reserved for women from OBC category, current mayor Vishnu Lata left the building.
Three seats in Jodhpur division have been reserved for SC, one for ST and 5 seats for OBC. In Ajmer division, 4 seats have been reserved for SC and 7 seats for OBC. No seats have been reserved for ST here.
The CPI-M representative accused the officials of misbehaviour. They said that they came on an invitation, but the officials didn’t bother to even take their party’s name on record.
