Relief to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey; Rajasthan high court stays arrest

Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court has stayed the arrest of Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on Wednesday but refused to quash the FIR lodged against him with Basni Police station in Jodhpur in connection with the case of allegedly defaming Brahmin Community during his recent India visit.
The bench of Justice PS Bhati stayed his arrest until further orders. The orders also mentioned that Dorsey needed not to be present in person and could assist police with investigation through his representative as he was an American citizen.
The petition was filed by one Rajkumar Sharma, a member of Vipra Foundation. He mentioned that Dorsey shared a picture on social media in which he was in the frame with six women holding a poster in his hands that said, “Smash Brahminical Patriarchy’.
The picture was later removed and an apology followed by the social media company. But Sharma demanded in his petition that Dorsey deserved punishment for allegedly spreading hatred against Brahmin community. Dorsey is accused of spreading hatred towards the Brahmin community.
Dorsey’s counsel said during the argument that Dorsey did not do anything to disseminate hatred against the Brahmin community and tender an institutional proportion to hatred.
Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani filed a diversified criminal petition on behalf of Dorsey and demanded that the FIR lodged against him be quashed. The court stayed Dorsey’s arrest on Wednesday.
